Itaú — Rock in Rio 2019

Itaú occupied seven structures across the Cidade do Rock in 2019. Every one of them had to be powered, and every one had to be signed for.

That was our scope: the electrical design for all seven praças, and the technical responsibility — RRT for both design and execution — that let them open. Together they drew 105.21 kVA at 380/220 V, three-phase, every panel calculated at a demand factor of 100%. At a festival, everything is on at once.

The Arena carried more load than the other six combined, and almost all of it was light: 28.00 kVA of LED strip and 28.08 kVA of LED panel, together 91% of that structure's demand. The ferris wheel drew 2.44 kVA. Same client, same week, a twenty-five-fold spread in what the drawing had to solve.

The problem a festival sets

Temporary structures invert the usual order. The scenography arrives first and the infrastructure follows it: the load comes from what the space will do, and what the space will do is still changing while you draw. Each praça was received from M|CHECON as an architecture and came back as single-line diagrams, panel schedules and balanced circuits sized for it — each one with spare ways left in, because on site something always gets added.

The deadline does not move. Design, review, signature and execution resolve inside the build window, and the drawings that go to site are the ones that get built.
